The “Hue Imperial City – Phong Nha: World Heritage Journey” tourist railway service, operated by the HQ1/HQ2 train pair, was developed with exactly that idea in mind.
Launched on 28 August 2026, the service connects Hue with Tho Loc Station on a journey of approximately 190 kilometres, calling at Hue, Dong Ha, My Trach, Dong Hoi and Tho Loc.
The route offers travellers another way to discover Central Vietnam by rail, linking a journey from the Complex of Hue Monuments towards the Phong Nha–Ke Bang area, while also providing access to notable historical and cultural destinations in Quang Tri.

More Than Scenic Views: Experiences on Board
Another notable feature of the Hue–Phong Nha service is the range of entertainment and travel experiences incorporated into the train itself.
The multifunctional service carriage was introduced with a 15-seat mini cinema, a 100-inch 4K screen and massage chairs, together with services such as photography in ao dai, traditional costumes and made-to-measure suits.
These features are quite different from what passengers might normally expect from a conventional long-distance train in Vietnam.
Travellers should note, however, that these are onboard services and activities. They should not be assumed to be complimentary or available at all times.
The Community Carriage and Local Culture
Alongside the passenger and service carriages, the train also includes a community space intended for cultural and recreational activities.
According to the programme introduced at the launch of the route, activities may include reading, presentations of local cuisine and regional specialties, folk performances and displays of OCOP products.
Cultural elements such as Hue traditional singing, Le Thuy folk singing, and the cuisines of Hue and Quang Tri add a stronger sense of place to the journey.

With this schedule, travellers can combine the railway journey with visits to Hue, Quang Tri, Dong Hoi and the Phong Nha area depending on their individual itinerary.
Hue–Phong Nha Train Fares in 2026
According to the fare schedule published by the railway operator, the listed fares for the full Hue–Tho Loc journey are available at three price levels:
- VND 380,000 per person, one way
- VND 420,000 per person, one way
- VND 760,000 per person, one way
The applicable fare depends on the type of seat or carriage selected.
Fares for shorter sections of the route, such as Hue–Dong Ha, Hue–My Trach or Hue–Dong Hoi, are lower depending on the journey.
Promotional Fares from 6 September to 31 December 2026
Following the promotional programme during the opening period, passengers travelling from 6 September through 31 December 2026 receive a 15% discount on fares.
After applying the 15% discount to the full-route prices, the approximate fares become:
- VND 380,000 → VND 323,000
- VND 420,000 → VND 357,000
- VND 760,000 → VND 646,000
Passengers purchasing round-trip tickets during this period also receive an additional 10% discount on the return journey, according to the railway's announced promotion policy.
In addition to discounted train fares, passengers holding heritage train tickets may also be eligible for promotions offered by participating tourism businesses in Hue and Quang Tri.
In Quang Tri, information from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism indicates that participating tourism promotion programmes offer different levels of discounts depending on the service, including attractions, accommodation, dining and tours.
Because participating businesses and applicable conditions may change, travellers should check the latest details before using these offers.
